Eugénie Duss is engaged with the research project ‘Preventing and Combating Terrorism and Violent Extremism: Towards a Legal-Empirical Approach’ as a Postdoctoral Researcher. She is also a Research Fellow at the Geneva Academy, where she is charge of conflicts classification, dissemination of international humanitarian law, and works in close collaboration with the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
Prior to joining the project, Eugénie has worked as a Research Consultant and taught international humanitarian law at the University of Lausanne. She also served as a Researcher for the Mechanism of Moscow’s first Experts Mission for Ukraine, supported TRIAL International’s programmes as a Fundraising and Reporting Assistant, and conducted interviews with former FARC Commanders in Colombia as a Visiting Researcher at the University of La Sabana.
Eugénie holds a Ph.D in Law, a M.A. in Law, and a B.A. in International Relations from the University of Geneva. She wrote her doctoral dissertation on international humanitarian law applicable to international armed conflicts by proxy (summa cum laude, 2023). Her areas of expertise include international humanitarian law, in particular armed non-state actors and conflicts classification, international human rights law, international criminal law, and public international law.
