Conference “Interrogation & Torture: Research on Efficacy and Its Integration with Legality and Morality"
The Conference presented the output of an interdisciplinary research project on Interrogation and Torture, which culminated in a book edited by Prof. Gloria Gaggioli, Dr. Steven J. Barela, Mark Fallon and Prof. Jens David Ohlin and published by Oxford University Press in February 2020. The conference included an introductory speech by the representatives of the hosting institutions, a presentation of the background of the issue, including testimonies from persons who have been victims of torture, a presentation of the main outcomes of the book by the editors; a keynote speech by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, Nils Melzer, as well as a panel discussion on the way forward and rapport-based interrogation as a potential solution.
